Unboxing A Factory Part IV

You had to be careful when exploring the area. There was a barbed wire fence around some of the buildings, and it wasn’t very visible in the arriving darkness. The white house is the factory headquarters. There was a fairly solid gate, too. However, the barbed wire wasn’t running next to it. So let’s takeContinue reading “Unboxing A Factory Part IV”

Unboxing A Factory Part II

According to old maps, there had been several buildings behind the box factory office building. Now this was almost all that there was left. Judging by the number, it had originally contained workers’ apartments. It was all open doors, but its condition was so rough, I chose not to go in. It didn’t look muchContinue reading “Unboxing A Factory Part II”

Unboxing A Factory Part I

Dusk was already falling, when I reached an already familiar location. The last time I visited, I didn’t know, what it was, and didn’t find a way in. This time I was at least a bit wiser. This building is a former box factory headquarters. The company moved here from another city in the 1930’sContinue reading “Unboxing A Factory Part I”

Combining Business And Pleasure Part II

A better look at the floor attachment rods. Like all old industrial buildings like this, there were also multiple holes in the floors, which originally had contained some machinery or other equipment. Another dead end with one of the silos. There was water damage everywhere in the roof. A look downwards. The closest look soContinue reading “Combining Business And Pleasure Part II”

A Destroyed Beauty

The previous location was a mystery, but this one was not. This is a former cotton wool factory. I was built in the 1920’s and enlarged in the 1930’s and 1950’s. It manufactured cotton wool and bandages, even diapers and disposable hospital products in the 1970’s. In the early 1980’s a competitor bought the factoryContinue reading “A Destroyed Beauty”

A Brief Meeting

Hiding in the woods was this rather spectacular building, which isn’t of the usual Finnish style. It was clearly abandoned and broken into, but I couldn’t find a way in. Nope, no back door here, either. I wasn’t sure what the place was and how to get in. Yet. And this probably concludes my shortestContinue reading “A Brief Meeting”

The Barbed Wire Villa Part II

Another room with another fireplace. Almost as if this room was a mirror of the previous one. I was starting to get deeply saddened by the state of this place. Another set of double doors. Another entrance to the stairway. I believe, that the upstairs has originally consisted of two or three smaller apartments. There’sContinue reading “The Barbed Wire Villa Part II”

The Carpenter’s Workshop Part III

Moving back towards the front of the upstairs to see, what’s there. The harness racing pages of a tabloid newspaper. Sadly I can’t determine the date. A room full of seatbacks. Amazing. And a cupboard with a lonely chair. A very old looking photorealistic drawing of a young child. A saw, which really has seenContinue reading “The Carpenter’s Workshop Part III”

The Carpenter’s Workshop Part I

A new town, new adventures. I met an old friend of mine, who has also become an urban explorer, and she told me about a location, which almost certainly was accessible. This here is an early 20th century carpenter’s workshop, which according to its name, mainly manufactured furniture. It went out of business in 2004.Continue reading “The Carpenter’s Workshop Part I”

No New Shirt For Me?

Walking on the streets of Lahti after exploring the chapel drinking the cold beer I just received, I spotted this. I was pretty unsure what it was, but it seemed like it was abandoned. The sign says Jousi-paita. This is a shirt factory, the last male shirt factory in Finland. It went bankrupt in 2013.Continue reading “No New Shirt For Me?”
