When searching for locations to visit that summer, I ran across an article about the old sawmill power plant and chimney to be demolished for being in a too bad condition. That’s why the decision to demolish them had been made. And that’s why I decided to go and have a look.
The sawmill was founded in 1903 in this very location. The same company had other sawmills, but they all closed down until only the original one was in operation. It went bankrupt in 1996. According to newspaper articles, the power plant and chimney had stood vacant ever since and were in such a bad condition by now, that they would be demolished as a safety risk.

Well, here they are, and it’s already too late. They had been closed off with a construction fence. I tried to find a gap in it, but it was impossible. Even the chimney looks a bit problematic.
In August that year the chimney was imploded. A pretty rare way of demolition in Finland, actually. But I assume, that the power plant went down at the same time. So no new conquests for me in here.
