The Sugar Cube

The next location I went to was a planned one. It was a 1938 built functionalistic business and apartment building known as The Sugar Cube in a central location in a medium sized town. There had been an ongoing debate for years whether to preserve it or demolish it. As you know, I’m a big lover of functionalistic architecture. Therefore you know my opinion.

Isn’t it just adorable? The old garage building on the lot had been renovated to a public toilet and was still in use.

This is how the building looks from the back.

One more photo. Although it looks like it’s made of bricks, it is actually a wooden building. The city has started detail planning the lot, and the first plans were published earlier this year. I would really like to see it preserved.
