Welcome to yet another familiar location. This here is the former co-operative store previously featured in 2022. The change from the previous year is, that now most of its windows are boarded shut. The municipality owns it and already tried to demolish it once. As it is marked as historically important, they didn’t get permissionContinue reading “There It Sits And Nobody Does Anything About It”

The Heart Of Another Village Stopped Beating
Welcome to yet another small station village. This building here is the former co-operative store of the village. The building has been built in several phases. The end closest to the camera has originally been a wooden building from the early 20th century. It was enlarged for the first time in the late 1920’s. There’sContinue reading “The Heart Of Another Village Stopped Beating”
Opening The Mail
Back at another familiar location. This here is the former post and telegram office of a small municipality, which was originally built by a pharmacist in 1925 and served as a pharmacy. It has been featured earlier in here. The building is located in a very central location, but is covered by bushes. As usualContinue reading “Opening The Mail”
Suspicions Confirmed
Another very familiar location. This is now my fifth visit to the area having previously been here in 2018, 2020, 2021, 2022 and now 2023. This is a former co-operative store probably designed by the legend of Finnish co-operative functionalism, Erkki Huttunen. During these years the building has gone from bad to worse. Broken windowsContinue reading “Suspicions Confirmed”
Charging Batteries Part I
Although I had found a hidden treasure in the old industrial village featured in the previous post, I had to leave quickly. It was starting to rain, my camera battery was starting to drain and I was hungry. I drove to the nearest town, went for a kebab and charged my battery. After a smallContinue reading “Charging Batteries Part I”
The Heart Of The New Village
After the second world war, a new village with a new steel factory was founded. Of course all the infrastructure with worker apartments, a school and business buildings was built. The steel factory became small, was closed and the village slowly started to die. This is the co-operative store and post office of the village.Continue reading “The Heart Of The New Village”
The Project Doesn’t Seem To Advance
My quest for entering several buildings originally spotted between 2020 and 2023 goes on. This time it’s a former business and apartment building. A detail plan allowing it to be demolished and replaced with a much larger block of flats had by now been in force for at least five years. Yet nothing much seemsContinue reading “The Project Doesn’t Seem To Advance”
Found The Wrong Store
The third location of the day was again one I had found through train windows. It was a former village store with such a bush growing in front of it, that it was only visible to the railroad during wintertime. Imagine my surprise, when I approached through the back, and noticed, that the building wasContinue reading “Found The Wrong Store”
Another Catch Gone
And yet another catch up on a previously visited location. This time it was the business building I found by accident in 2022. Well, it was located in that gravel pit over there. And photographing it from the opposite direction doesn’t bring the buildings back. They had been demolished in 2022. A pity. This locationContinue reading “Another Catch Gone”
Killed By Authorities
Already during my previous visits to this village, I’ve noticed this old store. Judging by some of the color choices still visible, it has belonged to a chain called Siwa. An old Google Maps picture from 2009 confirmed this. When I started searching for the store’s closing date, I ran into a surprising reason asContinue reading “Killed By Authorities”
