There Never Was Much Traffic Anyway

After the winter war ended, the Soviet Union forced Finland to build a railway Eastwards from Kemijärvi. Their master plan probably was, that they could easily transport troops and equipment to Finland when they would attack anyway.

After the continuation war, the railway was rebuilt. There never was any cross border traffic, and there was otherwise very little traffic too. The passenger traffic ended way back in 1967, in 2012 all traffic ended on this stretch of track. The station building was already boarded shut back then.

This is what the rails look like nowadays. Nothing has moved here in more than 10 years.

That over there is the old station building.

And that there is another picture of my dear Volvo.

The station building featured several apartments for railway staff.

Unfortunately all doors and windows were properly shut.

And if I’m not mistaken, that building features a privy, a sauna and a firewood storage.

Not much else to see here this time.
