Welcome back to the church of Valkeakoski, a modernist, late 1960’s landmark, which has stood empty for years because of its bad condition. Some want to preserve, more want to demolish, and the decision has already once been made to wipe it off the plot.

The warning says, that you are responsible for yourself, if you go closer than four meters to the building.

I find the architecture of this building magnificent and would definitely vote for preserving it, would I be a member of the congregation.

“Warning! Forbidden to go behind the fence. Parts can fall of the church.”

But I’m not a member of the congregation. That’s why all I can do is take photos.

Longing there.

This one is from the church courtyard taken through a round gap in the wall.

And here you have a more artistic version of the same view showing the gap.

There was also a gate to the courtyard.

The back side.

This was one of the few acts of vandalism I found. The rock shouldn’t be there.

There was a similar glass highway on both the front and back sides.

The altar seen through the window.

The photo is bad. Sorry about it. But this is my only way of showing, what the insides look like.

A very pure and clean example of modernist architecture. Demolishing this would be a crime. Especially as the reason for demolition would be, that the congregation doesn’t want to fix it.

I guess that’s the 4 meter safety line.
No decisions have been made. The poor church is still waiting.
