Business Gone Bad Part III

The upstairs was occupied by just one department store. When it left, the destiny of the mall was sealed.

This view shows the lovely, light glass roof a bit better.

Basically the upstairs was a large, open space.

The department store has also thoroughly cleaned up after leaving.

The metallic wall prevented people from climbing to the store outside opening hours. It’s more practical than beautiful.

The back of the upstairs was darker.

The elevator doesn’t look very inviting.

Originally it warned about an alarm by the company Turvatiimi. Now it says ‘False alarm, salaam aleikum, murder team’. Clever.

The back room. Either used by employees or as a storage.

Moving on to the next corner.

The room, which looked like a terrace to the outside.

The fridge would hint that this has indeed been a staff break room.

The unicorn has an important message. They always do.

There was even a small kitchen with a first aid kit at the back.

The local teenagers have been here again.

This elevator looks like it has been in customer use. The other one looked more like a goods lift.

One of the very few proper graffiti pieces in the building.

This became a popular writing wall years before the place closed. Wonder, what became of these people.

Upstairs was what looks like the elevator machinery.

And this looks like a switchboard of some sort.

All the technique was on the top. This room is for ventilation. But what is that chair doing here? The caretaker came here to take a nap?

The view from the rooftop. That over there is lake Saimaa.

Pretty valuable brands had been sold here back in the days.

Exploring the final end of the downstairs. This has been a shoe store.

The door to the parking garage was in the far corner, and it was welded shut. I guess I’ll never know, if there’s a pool there or not.

Well I did find out. The garage is absolutely flooding. When taking into account, that it almost certainly goes deeper under the building, that is no longer a pool. That is a deep sea dive.

In late 2023 the city council decided to allocate funds to buy the mall and demolish it. It was demolished in the autumn of 2024.
