Welcome to yet another amazing and absurd story from the Finnish real estate business.

This here is a block of flats built in the 1950’s. I find it a rather nice building. It sits empty in the very center of a successful Finnish town, which is actually growing in size.

Back in 2014 it was bought by a company for 8 million euros. The buyer was a company owned by a foundation, which was involved in several criminal investigations. First it had been giving support to political parties against its rules, then its leadership lost millions of the foundation’s money. The leaders have since been convicted.

Eventually it was determined that when the company bought the building for 8 millions, it was in reality worth just 1,5-2,5 millions. The building was abandoned back in 2016 and it was sold in 2018.

The new owner is willing to sell or renovate the house. So far not much has happened apart from one fire in a top floor apartment.

Meanwhile the plaster on the outside walls of the house has started to fall off and the city is pressuring the owner to start fixing things.

I once again state my love towards this era of architecture and hope, that the building will get a new life.
