To The Unknown Part II

My local guide didn’t give up after our initial failure. She said she knew of another small one family house, which had always looked abandoned.

There was no mailbox and no thrash can by the driveway. In general the yard looked very unkept. I have to admit she had a good eye for abandonments.

Open doors day.

Are broken stairs leading to the front door some sort of a trademark of this town?

The veranda was rather large. Although the house was constructed in the traditional former way using the materials, which were available, this veranda looked rather cozy to me.

The doors are literally made of a wooden frame and cardboard.

The kitchen is very primitive. I suspect, that this house has been abandoned for quite some time. The standard of living hasn’t been very modern, and the age of the inhabitants has potentially been quite high.

A cute little cupboard there.

The stove looked rather special. I’ve never seen one with that many ovens before.

The rooms facing the street were dark, the old plastic floor had started to bubble.

The house had been emptied properly, when the inhabitants left.

Something has been hanging on the wall for a really long time. The form suggests a wall rug, which were also common in old Finnish homes back in the days.

The stairs up.

The first thing I was met with upstairs were two boxes of nails.

Otherwise the upstairs was just an empty cold space. There was no insulation on the roof, nor on the walls. It had been used as a storage, and plates had been put on the sawdust insulation, which protected the downstairs.

This was the way rural homes were built back in the days. Keep in mind that we are in the Northern part of Finland, where tempereatures of -35 Celcius are not uncommon.

A bed was in one corner of the attic. There’s also skylight coming from between the walls and the roof. This has been a cold place in the winter.

A second bed. And a broom.

The protective cover of a very old lock.

And finally the three cozy porch windows from the outside, all broken.

Not the most interesting of locations. But number 97 conquered.
