In Good Care Part I

I am once again going to reveal a thing about myself. I am very networked. There are very few places in Finland, from which I don’t know people. The people I know, are very good hearted, and often help me out during my trips by providing accommodation or bathrooms. One of my biggest supporters isContinue reading “In Good Care Part I”

Redeeming

Welcome back to the fibre factory last seen in 2020. While I had been gone, the factory buildings on the other side of the lot, which had suffered fire damage, had received a demolition permit. This side was still standing strong. For obvious reasons I believed, that this side of the complex was still inContinue reading “Redeeming”

The Curse Lifted Part II

Moving on to the lower rooms in the building. Despite being abandoned for a long time, there was a surprisingly small amount of graffiti. More machinery moving on rails. Well, this German company has developed brick handling machines for decades. That looks complicated! I wonder, for how long this thing has been collecting dust. NowContinue reading “The Curse Lifted Part II”

The Curse Lifted Part I

A few years ago I tried to explore an old brickworks. It didn’t go very well. I tried to approach it from the back to avoid be seen from a nearby house, destroyed a brand new pair of shoes falling into a ditch and still gained no entry. When I left, I realized that theContinue reading “The Curse Lifted Part I”

No Entry, No Zucchini

Another familiar location. This here is a former leather factory, which I found back in 2022. During that visit I didn’t gain entry, but I was given zucchinis by the neighbours. I still failed to gain entry. As the neighbours weren’t home, there was no zucchini this time. I had to leave empty handed.

Exploring With A Landlady Part IV

After the mass factory we drove to the other side of town to the following endangered landmark. This here is a former textile mill, which served as a center of arts and culture after factory use ended. There was a theatre, rooms for dance practice and workspaces for artists. They were evicted, because this hugeContinue reading “Exploring With A Landlady Part IV”

Exploring With A Landlady Part III

The following location was again a part of important Finnish industrial history. It was the mass production facility of a company producing tiles used for instance in floors, facades and bathrooms. Built in 1913, it is the oldest known building in Finland, which has been made of reinforced concrete. Production in the area ended inContinue reading “Exploring With A Landlady Part III”

A Doomed Area Part I

Once again my tireless news reading paid off. I had read about an old, 1940’s built residential area for miners, which the mining company wanted to demolish. The reasoning was, that the buildings, which had been abandoned since the late 1980’s or early 1990’s were lacking basic things like bathrooms, and protection regulations didn’t allowContinue reading “A Doomed Area Part I”

A Small Success

Back at a familiar location. This is the factory workers’ court featured earlier in photos from 2020 and 2022. This is basically what Tour de Finland 2023 was all about. Visiting a lot of familiar places trying to see, if there were possible entries. There were a total of three buildings. In the first pictureContinue reading “A Small Success”

Tour De Finland 2023

It was the day before midsummer eve. I had packed all my belongings and was ready to go. A five week summer holiday was awaiting, and I had a clear plan. For the first two weeks I would be touring Southwestern and Western Finland all the way up to Oulu. Then I would spend aContinue reading “Tour De Finland 2023”
