Brick By Brick

Slowly heading home after the succesful tour of Finland I now had time to check on locations, which I had spotted earlier but never had the time to explore in more detail. This mystery yard was one of them.

The yard contained two buildings. One was this one, which looked like a storage shelter. The other one looked a bit like a very old petrol station.

Its roof wasn’t in a very good condition anymore.

This is where the missing roof tiles have found their way, it seems.

Some wooden boards were stored upstairs. Or “upstairs”.

In addition to brick pieces there were remains of glass. It actually made me wonder, if there had been windows in the building. Old Google Maps photos prove, that this isn’t the case.

The insides of the building were very primitive. It indeed looks like it has been just a storage canopy and nothing more. Surprisingly lot attention to detail had been paid, though.

More smashed roof bricks and a brand of beer I don’t recognize, which is a miracle. I’m pretty good at downing it.

The walls were covered in big graffiti.

The other building on the lot was far better shut.

The building seen from the yard. The architecture and the fact that it has been made of bricks hint at it having been built in the 1950’s.

Something has been sold here, it seems.

Both buildings visible in one photo.

Very little information about this lot exists. During its final years it served as a store and storage of a large brick company. They have had an auction at their “old” storage area back in 2015, so that’s probably when it was closed.

There had originally been more buildings on the lot, but they were demolished back in the late 2010’s according to old maps and aerial photos. The rest of the buildings were demolished in 2023 and now the lot is empty.
