Back in February 2015 I was again covering winter holidays at a regional newspaper, when my boss asked me to cover an event. The inhabitants of a nursing home for old people had asked to be able to get a sleigh ride for one more time.
So the nursing home arranged the event. The 40 inhabitants were brought outside, served coffee, hot juice and sausage, and all those who were still able to get on, were given a small tour around the premises in a sleigh pulled by a horse. They loved it, I covered it. I wrote a small, feel good news item about the event.
A new nursing home was completed in the municipality the following year, and the old one was abandoned. The municipality tried to sell it, but the sale wasn’t very successful.
I had passed by the abandoned looking building several times. Now it was time to go and see, what it was really about.

As you can see, the building is yet another beautiful 1950’s municipal home, which has later been enlarged to be a nursing home.

The building looks almost exactly the same as back in 2015. The windows are just empty.

The nursing home was expanded in the late 1980’s. There was originally a wooden, older building behind the concrete 1950’s building to the left. According to maps it was demolished, when the annex seen behind was built.

The new wing to the right was connected to the old main building through this little corridor.

I had tipped about this location to a fellow urbexer, who gave me some locations in return. They had managed to enter already a year earlier, so I knew, that the building had been open at some point.

The only question was, where the way in could be found.

There was one more building behind the whole complex. This is where the original wooden municipal home had been located.

An outside barbeque spot.

The chairs have seen better days.

The fence was decorated with cows and sheep.

There was no way in at the back. Let’s try the other way around.

This is the former front yard. The 1950’s wing is to the right and the newest wing is straight up front.

The junction of the old an new parts. I have a photo from the other side of that corridor.

There’s been a crash.

This is probably the former main entrance.

The wooden building behind the municipal home had originally also something to do with it. Back when I was here covering the sleigh ride event, it was in a very bad condition even missing windows. Now somebody had fixed and painted it. I started to wonder, if somebody indeed had bought the entire complex.

Another entrance, another dead end.

Make sure, that the door is locked, the sign says. Well, as somebody has photos from the inside, somebody didn’t make sure that the door was locked.

I’ve now walked around the entire complex. There’s no way in.

I could have taken my time to sing psalms, but I didn’t feel like it. I’ll be back to see, if my prayers for open doors will be answered later.
