Filled With Water

This fairly recognizeable buildign is a mining tower. This time it’s an iron ore mine in a very remote location.

The mine was opened in 1969 and closed in 1974 after two catastrophic accidents. In 1972 a pillar failed and ground water flooded the mine. Operations continued after the water was pumped away.

But in 1974 came another flood, which filled the mine with water, sand and blasted stone. Most of the structures were damaged beyond repair.

Nobody died in the accidents. But the rumour has it, that all the machinery is still down there somewhere under water.

Almost 50 years of abandonment have taken their toll on the building, which has partially collapsed.

Inside the tower. The floor was in an awful shape.

There’s quite a drop below.

And also quite a way up. The roof had collapsed.

There were stairs up, but there was no way I would climb transparent metal stairs, which have rusted for 50 years.

That’s a shitty thing.

The stairs up.

There wasn’t much left. There’s probably been some dressing and break rooms up here. There was a larger mine some kilometers away, with a large mining community.

It looks to me like a machine of some kind has been in this room.

The end of the corridor had collapsed.

I believe this to have been a former toilet.

I wonder what has been in this room.

There was even access to the elevator shaft.

I think the culprits to the heaps of shit in the area are running away there.

This is probably where the stone was crushed.

The systems again look a bit too weak to be thoroughly explored.

All in all the buildings were very primitive.

Twisted stairs and rusty pipes.

I wonder how that worked.

There was reindeer hair everywhere. On hot days such as this one they often seek shelter in the shadows of buildings.

More collapsed structures.

I’m sure that the view from the top would be fantastic, but nothing in the world would get me to climb there.

This is where the ore was mined. It was both done through the open pit and an underground mine.

If I enjoyed swimming, I might as well have taken a dive.

Fortunately for you, I had other plans.
