Thursday evening, the day before midsummer eve. My five week summer holiday started and I wasn’t going to be in town until early August. I had packed all I needed in my summer car and rented my apartment to a friend, who wanted to spend the summer in the capital region. It was time to conquer the rest of Finland.
After a small trek in a national park, I arrived to the town of Kotka. There was my first location of the trip.

This here is the former police station of the town. It was built in 1964 and abandoned in 2015 because of, surprise, surprise, air quality problems.

Security had been tight. At this point I realized trying to find a way in was probably hopeless.

Funny to find Swedish signs this far in the East.

Trying to find gaps in the fence.

Found none. Don’t blame me, but I actually think the building is pretty beautiful and majestic.

The main entrance. The stairs had already been demolished.

The building was located on a very steep hillside, and the back of it was facing a pulp mill.

That mountain was just too high for me.
Unfortunately nobody else regarded the house as majestic. Demolition started in August 2022.
