Gone Camping Again Part I

As the hospital was no more, I was pretty much out of locations. Yet I had promised to take my friend, who is around 12 years my junior for and adventure. And that’s why I dug an old one from my dusty archives.

Those, who have been following my blog for long enough, have already seen this barrier. It’s the former campground I visited back in 2020, when I first tried to tour all of Finland in one summer.

Unfortunately the former restaurant and reception buildings I visited the previous time had been demolished. Here’s the shower and toilet building, which I haven’t featured before.

Locked. Unfortunately.

Well, here’s another building. I wonder, why I didn’t feature this on the previous visit.

The location and layout of the building is a strong hint of it being the campground sauna.

As do the loudspeakers by one of the doors. What a great place to have a beach party.

The back of the building didn’t reveal a way in.

The only possibility was to go through a window. And here I’ve actually captured a perfect shadow of us on the tiles of the fireplace.

So, let’s see, if my guess about the building was correct.

It certainly looks like it.

Oh yes. One end of the building contained a sauna, but why does everything look so blackened here?

Well, the answer is here. There has originally been a normal stove, which is in the corner. Another stove has been added later on to make this a chimneyless sauna, quite rare, but also quite valued in Finland. It is a bit smokey, but the nature of the bath is very different.

We’re back at the window, through which we entered. Let’s see, what the other end of the building has in store.

Either this has been a common room for the sauna visitors or a shared kitchen for the campground visitors. Who knows.

Although the light was a bit difficult for photography, the walls really were of a quite strange shade. The scenery is also very beautiful.

The kitchen from another angle. This place would have been perfect for beach parties.

The view towards the lake.

Another corner of the building. This one is closest to the main road to the area.

Not so glamorous. This corner was, where the toilet was located.

As well as another former shower.

Somehow the fairly strange layout of the building led me to believe, that it had been constructed in several phases.

An intact light bulb. Always a rarity in buildings this badly vandalized.

There was even a place to barbecue by the lakeshore.

This building has been explored now. But guess what. We found more.
