Once upon a time there was a big mansion with lots and lots of farmland. And farming the big fields needed a lot of staff. That’s why there also was a need for staff apartments. The mansion was so big, that even a block of flats was built for them, although the location was fairly rural.
Nowadays the area is a resort attracting lots of visitors. The block of flats had been abandoned for years and fallen into disrepair, but around 2020 plans were made to restore it to provide accommodation to the resort visitors. I saw some photos from the area, but something in them just didn’t add up. It seemed almost as if they were from two different buildings.
It took a lot of research to find out, that the building indeed had a twin. They were built according to identical drawings, and the one next to the resort has now been beautifully renovated. But where was the twin located?
It took even more research and the help of a fellow urbexer to find the twin. The location is so isolated, that you really need to know where the building is to find it. But I finally had a place to start looking for it.
And that’s why this spring evening I am in the middle of farm fields making my way on a private road hoping, that the inhabitants of a small house with a very angry dog won’t notice me.
There it is with absolutely no other buildings in sight.
A beauty. An absolute beauty. And according to photos I’ve seen, it is almost completely in its original 1940’s shape even from the inside.
I’ve heard lots of stories about angry neighbours, but fortunately I didn’t encounter them. Unfortunately I also couldn’t find a way in.
