Welcome to the outskirts of an important university town. Basically there should be no abandoned houses here, as there is a continuing shortage of apartments, especially close to the university. Well, these houses are close to the university, closer than most of the student apartments. And yet they are abandoned, have been at least since 2015.

There were two row houses here, built in 1977 and 1980. They have been designed by the same architect, who designed the university. This is the first one, although I don’t know, if this is the older, or the newer one.

Judging by the futuristic design, I would guess, that this one is the newer one.

The two buildings were last owned by a foundation, which was notorious in town. It was known for renting the apartments basically to anybody with a good price, and then ignoring all complaints about tenants. The foundation was also notorious for not taking care of the buildings, which was especially the case with this location.

The mailboxes of the last tenants. The local student apartment association had recently purchased the row houses and was planning something new to replace them with.

The rescue vehicle route, to be unblocked. Not needed anymore by the tenants, but probably needed in the future because of vandals.

This small building in the end of the first house contains storages.

And this is the back of the second row house.

Looking at the front of the first house.

The buildings had several broken windows, but I still hadn’t found a way in.

Another look at the front of the first house.

Someone had lit a fire on the porch.

The first opening. Too small for me, it seems.

The front of the second house.

A larger building at the end of the second house.

A second look at the end building. It looks like some sort of a common room for the tenants.

A look behind the second house.

And one final look at the second building.
There was one gap to one apartment in both of the houses. Let’s go inside the second house in the next post.
