This beauty here is the former hospital of the town of Vammala. Built in 1938, it was a notable example of pre-war functionalistic architecture. It was a key building in the history of the town, considered an important landmark and was on a very visible spot in the town.
So naturally they wanted to demolish it. The reason: it was in bad condition and outdated. In English and all other languages this means, that the town hadn’t kept its property in shape.
Back when I visited in 2020, the debate about the hospital’s demolition was ongoing. The decision had now been made. It was good to go. Yet there it stood as beautiful as ever.
I sometimes wonder, what the municipal councellors think when making these decisions.
