Exploring With A Landlady Part I

All the way until the previous spring I had still visited my old home town weekly, although I had moved away for almost four years ago. For the first few years I slept mainly on trains travelling back and forth, the pandemic also caused some loger times, during which I didn’t travel at all. But during the past year I had had some arrangements with friends, who were rarely at home.

During the autumn, the best friend of my friend went to student exchange to Denmark. I paid a very modest price to use her apartment during my visits. She moved back, and that’s when another friend of mine approached me. She had a job in another town, where she didn’t want to live, so her apartment was mostly empty. I once again paid a modest sum and spent one or two nights a week there.

Eventually she moved back to her home town at the end of the spring, and as I had now reached it, she agreed to let me borrow the bathroom and cooked some pasta for a hungry traveller. After that we set off to explore my long list of places, but she said, that the first place would come from her.

And there it is.

This is her former high school, which served its last years as a secondary school. It was closed in 2020 because of poor condition, and the city was wondering, whether it should preserve it or replace it with apartments.

An interesting fusion of 1950’s and 1960’s school architecture, it was considered regioanlly important. Not, that it would have mattered before either.

There was the classroom wing by the street to the right. The gym is invisible to the left and between them is a massive lobby.

The gym.

It seems that a lot of stuff had been left behind.

There were some signs of vandalism, but most of the entrances were well sealed.

The building had preserved its original appearance.

The architecture of the gym wing was fairly interesting.

The upstairs windows are to the large lobby.

There were several entrances, all shut.

The main entrance. I think the building is majestic.

A bad attempt at looking inside the lobby.

Sadly this was a no go. So time to head towards my locations.
