Back in the 1950’s and 1960’s a regional central hospital network was built in Finland. The capital of each region got its own hospital, which were prime examples of public building architecture back in their days.
Since then the hospitals have been expanded numerous times, but eventually the buildings have reached an age, when drastic, big renovations have been required. The cities with the oldest hospitals have done massive renovations to the historically important buildings while demolishing newer annexes. Some cities, especially those, which built their hospitals from the 1960’s onwards, have decided to demolish them and build new ones.
Here we have one of the cases.

The Kainuu Central Hospital in Kajaani was built in the late 1960’s and abandoned, when the new hospital was completed. The health care district tried to find a new use to the historic landmark, but the real estate business in Kainuu isn’t very strong. They made the decision to demolish the building.
I hoped, that I would make it to Kajaani before the demolition began, but I was too late. I really would have liked to gain access here, but failures are a part of this hobby.
