Too Old, Too Small

After my visit to the mental asylum, I packed my bags. Back when I was planning on buying my summer car and decided to attempt my Tour de Finland again, I asked my boss, if I could spend less time at the office and more time working from distance, as I wanted to spent as much time as possible visiting different places. Instead of agreeing to this, he suggested, that we make up a series of articles called ‘The Summer Tour’, and cover topics and people we usually don’t. We asked for our readers for suggestions and planned a nice route.

The agreement was, that I had to do the interviews and write the articles as requested, but I could drive as indirect routes as I wanted, if I paid for the expenses of the detours myself. Two weeks of fun ahead. And because I wanted to see a few municipalities before the first interview, I left very early in the morning.

I didn’t get very far, until I found something.

This here is a former Shell service station. I’m not really sure about its age, but its small size hints at the 1950’s. I’m not sure about the date of its abandonment either, but a new Shell was opened on the other side of the crossing in 1987. I don’t see why they would have had two stations in the same place, even though the location is great.

The doors of the garage are so narrow, that it would be hard to fit a modern car inside.

A look through the broken window. When researching the history of the building, I noticed, that it had been used by car and bike hobbyists still in 2019. I found matching photos from Instagram.

The back door. There was no access through here either.

Another dead end. I really would like to get inside somewhere.

  1. That opening with the broken window above the tires would be an easy entry for me. Alternatively, one could climb the ladder to the roof and enter like a ninja.

I am only mildly crazy, by the way. 😉
