What A Beautiful Morning Part IV

The former main entrance to the building. This must be, where the final two apartments are located.

Not the first thing you’d expect to find on the porch of an old villa: the mask of an old Ford Sierra.

Oh, and there’s the front bumper.

Now hold on a second, that is a seat. And the other piece looks like another bumper or something like that.

Well, yes, to fix a car, you need alcohol. In Finland we call it ‘asennuskalja’, which means installation beer.

A computer magazine from 1997 advertising an article about easily using Microsoft Windows. Oh, the golden times.

Even the wheels of the Sierra are here along with some engine parts. My next question is, is the whole car chopped up here somewhere?

The entrance was directly to this small corner with a kitchen. The kitchen to the first apartment is right behind the wall to the left and the larger room of the second apartment behind the wall straight ahead.

There was a short corridor with several doors right ahead.

The one to the left led to a very small bathroom.

This is the room at the end of the corridor. I believe this to have formed a living room together with the bedroom of the second apartment.

The room was absolutely filled with shelves, which had been placed quite strangely in the middle of the room.

The room actually has two windows to this side of the building. The other one is blocked by a board advertising the new houses on the lot.

The cupboard door features an advertisement of a radio channel claiming to play the best rock in the city.

Another puzzling thing is this coke cooler. Not a very common feature of normal homes. But neither are chopped up Ford Sierras, though.

A look back towards the main entrance from the door of the room I just explored. The entrance is straight ahead, the kitchen is to the right. But where is the final apartment.

The only thing I can think of is the door to the left. It has a lock, and if you look closely at one earlier picture, even the door in the doorway I am standing in, seems to have a lock.

So these two apartments were actually two rooms, which shared a kitchen and a toilet. Very primitive.

This room had a bed, the other inhabitant chose the coke cooler. Life is full of choices.

The inhabitant of this apartment has also had this thing for mirrors.

One final look through the window next to the porch.

And then we climb back over the remains of the Sierra and through the window.

The door to the basement was open, too, and we actually thought about entering, for a while. But at the door we were met with a strange smell, I’ve never experienced before. It was extremely heavy, strong, very sweet, yet rotten. I think there was something dead rotting away in there.

We hoped that it was just a deer or a rabbit, but didn’t want to take a closer look.

So we tried looking through the windows, but became no wiser.

One final strange detail. Someone has peeled parts of the metal roof away for no apparent reason.

But it doesn’t matter anymore. Like I told before, the demolition permit has been given and is valid. They have applied to change the detail plan to build two houses on this lot. The plan has been shown to the public for commentaries almost a year ago, but for some reason it hasn’t been approved and enforced.

I think, it’s just a matter of time, though. But for some reason the house still stands almost three years after these photos were taken.
