And so our day trip to find abandoned houses in the capital region continued. We next went looking for a former village store, but it had been demolished not too long ago, as it was just an empty lot.
And our final location of the day was in the Northern suburbs of Espoo. It was in an area, where one family homes had been densely built since the 1930’s. But as the capital region grew and Finland got wealthier, these small cottages started to give way to larger and more lavish houses.
And that would probably be the fate of this little cottage, too.

Some cable works were done in the back yard. We first thought about approaching the building from the front, but the neighbour on the opposite side of the road was on the yard cleaning his car. That’s why we decided to go through the back.

The smaller white building is probably some sort of a storage. It’s a bit small to be a sauna and a bit large to be a privy.

And that there is a separate underground basement used to store food back in the days before fridges.

I had to take a long hard look to understand what this was, but it turns out, that it’s a satellite antenna. They’ve been watching Canal Digital here.

Through the broken basement windows I could see old household appliances and other stuff stored in there.

Plastic covers and motor oil. A classic combo.

Another TV antenna on the ground. Wonder, if these have been blown off the roof by a storm or some vandals.

Even this building was built on a hillside. Stone stairs had been built from the main entrance to the underground storage.

When I first saw the bike, I thought that maybe this place isn’t abandoned after all. But then I saw the window. At least nobody can actively live here.
Notice another antenna standing against the wall.

This looks a bit like demolition would have began. But probably these are just remains from the latest renovations. They’ve grown moss for some time.
Notice, how close the neighbours are. The red car is the one being cleaned.

The porch. As the neighbour was now deep inside his vehicle hoovering it, we decided to try to see, if we could enter.

Oh, yes, the door is ajar.

And here we are in the hall looking towards the kitchen. This sight puzzles me a bit. The cupboards outside were much more modern looking than the ones actually installed in the kitchen. Were they meant for renovations, which never began?

That’s enough of scissors. They all look a bit different, so maybe they’ve been used differently.

The radio wasn’t of the latest brand.

Now this was a bit unexpected. A series of cookbooks, each of them dedicated to different dishes: one for birds, one for fish, one for beef etc. There are probably enough recepies for a lifetime there.

A calendar of the local energy company from 2011. This might actually give some hints about when the property was abandoned. It was still inhabited in 2009, but no longer in 2019. My source is again Google Street View.

Another detail from the kitchen. This time I seem to have taken a lot of detail shots. Unusual from me.
There will be more in the following post.
