The logical next step would be taking the stairs to the next floor, but I decided to check the small hallway to the right first. What I found were the stairs to the basement, which once again was a no go for me. But there was something else.
The stairs to the basement are to the left next to the exit, which has been closed in a rather innovative way.
There was also a small corridor with a few small rooms next to it.
The sign says it’s the girls’ toilet.
A small office room. Perhaps the teachers’ study or the school nurse’s office.
As there was a small kitchen, I suspect the teachers’ study. The tableware is intact, which is fairly surprising.
The bulletin board had a calendar from July 2012. Perhaps that was when the building was last used.
The canisters contain detergent. No use in cleaning up here anymore.
Phone numbers for reporting technical problems to the technical department of the town of Anjalankoski. The town ceased to exist back in 2009.
Contact information to a company maintaining household appliances. The company terminated their activities in 2021.
So much for the small side corridor. Now it’s time to go upstairs!
I wish I could come with you on these adventures, if nothing more than to get pictures of rooftops, basements, and dangerous locations that people who know better (myself included) should probably avoid. 🙂

I would absolutely love to! However, there are a few issues that I’m facing…
1 – My wife doesn’t like airplane flights.
2 – My wife and I don’t like being separated for extended periods of time.
3 – I need to update/replace my passport. There is no gender listed on my current passport, because my original birth certificate stated ‘Undetermined Sex’. Remember, I was born a hermaphrodite.

Issues are meant to be overcome, although numbers 1 and 2 do pose quite a challenge.
My long time dream has been to fly to New York, rent a convertible and drive West through the Southern states and back through the Northern. As all of my money is currently going to an overly expensive flat in the heart of Helsinki and the rest is spent driving around the country, I’ll have to become rich and famous before this is possible.
But I want to believe!
This would be an AWESOME trip! I have seen most of the United States. The places with the best abandonment are the routes that were replaced with Interstate highways. US Route 66 is a good example. My favorite area is the northeast US, probably because I have lived in that part of the country literally my entire life.
If you are ever in Vermont or northern New York State, please let me know. I’d love to show you some incredible abandonments. 🙂
