One Of Many

If you travel by train in rural Finland, these are common sights.

Back when the Finnish railroad network was built, it was meant to be a faster and more comfortable alternative to horses, not for cars. There was an intensive local network of stations. Often these stations brought inhabitants and prosperity to these villages, some even grew to cities.

Most of the stations were served with a network of blue railcars until the 1980’s. The railcar traffic was discontinued in 1988, and most of the stations closed. This one was closed way back in 1983.

Some of the stations are nowadays in a very bad condition. This one has survived well, though.

The photo has been edited using AI to remove the station’s name.

Nowadays the trains pass the passenger station. But it seems like lumber is still delivered to the factory on the other side of the railroad.
