Looks Like I Have A New Goal

As I said earlier, I had made a long list of potential locations before embarking on my tour of Finland. One of them was the old municipal home of a small municipality on my route. According to my research, it had been last rented out as municipally supported space to local small businesses. I didn’t know what I would find, I didn’t even know what to expect. I just had to drive there and have a look.

And judging by the shape of the gardening, I had hit a jackpot.

A classic municipal home with an old wooden part and a 1950’s new wing. Similar locations have been featured here and here.

Keeping my fingers crossed for an entrance.

This is a very strange feature of 1950’s Finnish buildings. They had already invented element construction and in order to make buildings look more modern than they really were, they painted borders in walls to make houses look like they were built from elements. In reality this house has been made from bricks.

By now I was 100 % sure that the place was abandoned. I still had my fingers crossed.

The newer, 1950’s part didn’t feature an entrance. Let’s see, what the old part has in store.

But before moving there I would like to point out the lovely windows between the old and new part of the building. Why don’t they make things like that anymore?

The end of the building had once grown something. That doesn’t look like it’s feeling very well. Or then the spring has been cold.

The facade of the old main building looks a lot like the previous municipal home I photographed.

Originally the building has been U-shaped. The windows don’t quite fit, and I believe that they have been changed in the 1980’s.

The only thing I could find was blocked doors.

A courtyard view.

Moving on to the final side of the building. Looks like another no go.

More locked and blocked doors.

For once this was actually true. I spotted a camera in the area.

Construction area? Really? I don’t think so.

I’ve been writing about my urbex dream, the ultimate location, which I really long to visit. I’ve said, that I consider my career as an urbexer fulfilled, if I ever get inside. I’ve been writing about big catches, locations, that really make my day. Well, this place has now become a big catch. I really want to get in someday.
