Combining Business And Pleasure Part II

A better look at the floor attachment rods.

Like all old industrial buildings like this, there were also multiple holes in the floors, which originally had contained some machinery or other equipment.

Another dead end with one of the silos.

There was water damage everywhere in the roof.

A look downwards.

The closest look so far at the floor supporting rods. They seem very thin.

One of the wheels of the containers seen from the other direction.

As you can see, we are already on our way down.

This way leads to a drop.

One more look up towards one of the containers.

And another general view of the downstairs. The water on the floor is again an indication of the leaking roof.

And then we are outside. I believe, that this is, where the container towards the mill started from. it stood on those concrete foundations.

Moving behind the silo. There was originally a building here, where the wood was grounded into the chips, which were then lifted up the silo and moved to the pulp mill.

You can clearly see the old roof line of the demolished building.

The wall in this section has suffered quite a lot of damage.

There was one further door in the building, which our guide wanted to show us.

There was the original elevator, which lifted the chips up to the top of the silo. They were probably transported by another conveyor belt to the elevator. I don’t think this one works anymore.

We could have climbed to the absolute top, but I am afraid of heights. So, nope.

The foundations of the old building are still visible.

And the roof line of the old building is visible even here.

It looks like there has been a set of stairs and a window of some sort inside the silo here.

Even the elevator tower has had windows extending up to the top.

It seems like there has also been another entrance to the elevator tower.

Some of the remains of the demolition are still quite rough even 25 years later.

Another angle of the silo. In the 1990’s the area was built into a new residential area. Throughout the years I’ve visited many friends there, as the area is pretty cheap to live in.

And we’re back where we started from. The exploration is over.

During the past few years the foundation has completed essential repairs to keep the structure alive. They’ve also successfully applied for demolition permits for internal structures, which means the containers.

Their plan is to restore the silo. The plan also allows them to build a new building in place of the old wood grounding mill, which was demolished back in the 1980’s or 1990’s. Their plan is to build a sustainable building honoring the figure of the old grounding building.

Their plans are moving on slowly, but there’s something happening all the time. They’re also constantly arranging events in the silo and around it.

More info about their project can be found here.
