The final location of the day was chosen by me. It was the former elementary school of Jakomäki, which was due to be demolished. And as soon as we got there, we noticed, that demolition had already started.

There also seemed to be a kindergarten of some sort in the buildng.

We started to look for gaps in the fence.

The building had two wings, which were separated with a stairway and a canopy.

The demolition didn’t seem to have been going on for too long. We were still hopeful.

The clocks had stopped.

The facade of the school seen from another direction.

The facade was far from regular. It had different levels. Although the school was built in 1968, it followed the rules of functionalism.

The far end of the school. Moving on to the other side.

The fence still seemed solid.

The other side was covered with woods. The fence still was solid.

We didn’t find a weak spot in the fence, but we also spotted something else. A group of twelve-year-old, or so, kids, who were led by a shady man in his 50’s with a wooden stick trying to find a way inside the building. For a while we followed them considering calling the police, the combination was so unusual and alarming.

But in the end we gave up, let them go and focused on the next building.

According to the demolition documents, this place was called the playground building. It was also set to be demolished.

Again we started looking for weak spots in the fence.

But even here it seemed solid.

It was starting to look like another no go.

As it was. This one has been taken through the fence.
As the strange group with the old man and children had vanished, we decided to head back home. The buildings were demolished by the end of that autumn. But at least I got to document them from the outside.
And as you are curious: we did have a third date. But after that we haven’t heard of eachother. Time for new dates, time for new locations.
