The entrance to the basement of the burned section didn’t look very tempting.

Neither did the entrance to the intact part. For some reason I decided to go have a look.

Here we have the boiler room.

Now this is interesting. The boiler has been inspected in 1993 due to a boiler change. Even in this official document the place is called China.

When the boiler was inspected the houses were owned by the city of Helsinki, which owned the hospital. This note instructing how to order new oil is much newer. The houses are now owned by the municipality of Sipoo.

The boiler seems a bit broken to me.

Someone living here has had a pretty big tv.

The middle door mystery presented in the first post is finally solved. The stairs are placed below the stairs upstairs right in the midde of the house and lead to the third door on the back side between the apartments.

The basement contained all kinds of stuff from former inhabitants including skis.

There were also storage rooms, which could be locked.

And this looks like the shared sauna of the inhabitants.

Just look at that shower curtain.

Salad treat with vegetables and pineapple. Yummy.
And that’s the end of this grand morning out. Eventually these houses would stand abandoned until late 2022. They went into a very bad shape and eventually had their windows boarded shut and got lots of graffiti on their walls. This is evident from a picture on the demolition company’s website.
Demolition started in October 2022 and was completed by the end of the year. And so another location has vanished.
The first thing that came to mind for me was the fact that you FINALLY went into a basement and took pictures. As for me, I have no problem crawling through poorly lit basements, climbing ladders, and walking along rooftops. If you’re ever in the Northeast USA, please be sure to let me know, as I would love to go exploring with you and am more than happy to take pictures from vantage points that would scare the living daylights out of any rational high-functioning person. 😉
It was indeed pretty exceptional. But as I had a maritial arts expert as company, I found the courage 😉
WHEN I manage to come to the USA I will definitely let you know. I promise to try to before I turn 50. As I only turn 35 in a few weeks, it’s still a bit far away. 😀
