A Guide To Karelia Part IV

We were already on our way back home, and my friend had listened to a lot of my stories about abandoned places in Northern Karelia. Among all the places we had been to, we had visited the Mätäsvaara mining village and Mätäsvaara molybdenum mine both featured in my galleries earlier.

And finally I heard the question I had been expecting all trip. Could I take her to an abandoned house?

Well, sure I could. There was one nearby.

I don’t expect you to remember this place. In real life it’s been less than a year since my visit but that 11 months of real life has been published in 200 posts since. So the place is this mental asylum.

Looking pretty much like it used to look like, but something is wrong. There’s a car parked right at the entrance. And you can’t see it, but when zooming in, there’s a guy in neon worker wear visible behind the bushes. We quickly backed out and left.

I believed at first, that it was copper thieves stealing the pipes of the old building, which had been happening recently in Finland and still happens. So i zoomed in on the photo to see the plate of the car and searched it.

It was the owner’s car. I was around 50 meters from getting caught red handed first time ever. But luckily there already is a gallery from the location.
