To Fix Or Not To Fix

My adventures in the sleet storm and the National scenery continued. And this time we meet an old friend already mentioned earlier in this blog.

Around a year has passed since the last mention, and the pool still just stands there. Back in April 2021, when I took this photo, no decisions had yet been made about its future.

The doors are locked, the cameras guard the empty entrance.

And the weather is awful. Reflections of other buildings in the area can be seen in the windows. Back in the 1950’s when they started building the area, it included lots of new ideas about good living and lots of innovations. That’s why it’s a national landmark.

Now something that I didn’t do the last time. A walk around the building.

The new annex built during the previous renovations is at the back.

I believe it has been placed like this because of the status of the older part of the building. The new annex has been hidden at the back not to diminish the pool’s architectural values.

There had at least been a gym in the annex. All equipment could still be seen through the windows.

Odd details of the facade of the main pool.

As of late 2023 the buildings still stand empty. In 2022 the city decided that the old pool would be renovated and partially rebuilt to preserve its original architecture. They hired a contractor, but after nine months of intense negotiations they pulled off. The price they had originally agreed upon couldn’t pay for the extensive repairs. The city is now seeking a new contractor.
